Intro

The augmented reality tour was the main project I worked on during my Internship at Gamelab Oost in Enschede.

To sum it up, I learned many things at this internship. During the internship, I worked with a small group to develop an Augmented Reality(AR) city tour based in Hengelo, Netherlands. TriMotion reached out to us to help develop this application further. The tour's goal was to help give insight into some of the technological advances the city of Hengelo has made in the past, present, and future.

Process

I was our group leader during the internship, which meant I had many tasks. I was in charge of communication with my entire key and was the focal point of everyone working well together. I also had to communicate with our clients, organising meetings and presenting our ideas to them. It also meant I had to manage the entire project's progression and ensure we met all our required deadlines.

Goal

I worked as the lead designer in our team, which meant I was in charge of communicating with our developers and artists on how we had envisioned our mechanics, but also meant I would undergo user testing, many iteration processes, brainstorming sessions, and quick prototyping.

After the iteration process was finished, we went into the development phase, which made me swap into more of a developer role since most of the designing was finished and primarily iteration and testing were necessary. I developed the drone minigame, UI and audio implementation, and the guide dog.

Result

It was my first time as a project lead, which meant I learned a lot about leading a team to finish a project but also in an effective manner. I learned a great deal about different design aspects and how important it is to involve other roles to combine our visions to create the best possible outcome. I learned a lot about client communication and presenting our ideas in front of them and an audience. I realised I don't want to pursue a project lead position, but I enjoy being a department lead. I improved my overall skills within Unity and C# and improved my fast prototyping skills.
